“But all things should be done decently and in order.”
-1 Corinthians 14:40
The Holy Spirit dwells within the whole Body of Christ. Since the beginning of the Church’s history, from Acts of the Apostles through the Rule of Saint Benedict, counsel and collaboration has part of Catholic life. This is true for our life at St. Rita too. Below are some of the councils active at St. Rita’s.
The Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council is a visioning body that assists the Pastor in guiding the overall direction of parish activity through prayerful reflection and consensus building among its members. The Council’s role is not to assume authority or responsibility over ministries, committees, or groups within St. Rita Catholic Community but to help coordinate the various projects of ministries, committees, and groups within the parish that are consistent with the overall objectives and mission of the Community.
Any baptized member of the Body of Christ and registered parishioner at St. Rita, called by the Holy Spirit and who, through a sacramental life, demonstrates good stewardship as a disciple of the Lord may be considered for service on the Pastoral Council. Members of the Council should be able to offer their skills in Christian leadership within a consultative framework that reflects the diversity of our parish community.
New Pastoral Council members are selected by the community coming together in prayer and asking for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Existing members of the Council and the Pastor select new members of the Council from those discerned to be possible members.

The Finance Council
Canon Law requires that all parishes have a Finance Council. St. Rita’s Finance Council provides guidance to the Pastor and the Parish Business Administrator in carrying out their administrative and financial responsibilities relating to St. Rita Parish and St. Rita School. The Council has financial and accounting oversight responsibilities for both Parish and School.
The council consists of the Pastor, the Parish Business Administrator and nine to ten members of the parish who are accountants, lawyers, or other business professionals. One of these members represents the finance committee of the St. Rita School’s Advisory Council. Also included are two ex-officio members (a second Advisory Council member and the Treasurer of the Parents’ Club).
The Stewardship Council
The Stewardship Council is responsible for advising the Pastor about the developments of stewardship as a way of life at St. Rita. The Council plays a special role during our annual Stewardship Renewal by coordinating Community Weekend and ensuring that parishioners who sign up for new ministries are contacted.
Parishioners interested in serving on this Council should expect at least a three-year commitment and a selection process. New members are added as space on the Council permits.
